" Help ! A lunatic ! " This was how Maurice Ravel’s Boléro was initially received, before becoming a universal music hit.
Originally composed for a ballet company with Ida Rubinstein, the icon of the Belle Epoque as star performer, the score has since inspired many choreographers. Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, the current directors of the Ballet National de Marseille, decided to confront themselves with this cult piece of the musical world, by “focusing on the friction between bodies and music”. They conceived, in line with their research ‘the body in revolt,’ a fight opposing dancers and music –embodied here in a real character. This creation will be preceded by extracts from the Ballet’s repertory.
